Universal Audio have announced the launch of a new addition to their Standard Series mic family, the SC‑1 Standard Condenser Microphone, alongside the Hemisphere Mic Modeling Plug-in. The new plug-in offers dozens of authentic emulations of classic mic models which can be used not only with the latest mic, but all of the current Standard Series offerings.
Joining the range’s existing SD‑1 Standard Dynamic Microphone and SP‑1 Standard Pencil Microphone Pair, the SC‑1 is a large-diaphragm capacitor mic that is said to boast an ultra-flat frequency response between 20Hz and 20kHz, along with low self-noise and a significant dynamic range.
Each of the Standard Series mics can now be used alongside the Hemisphere Mic Modeling Plug-in, which will allow them to emulate the sound of iconic dynamic, ribbon and capacitor models from the likes of Neumann, Telefunken, AKG, Sony and more. From within the GUI, users are able to quickly audition different mics, adjust the proximity effect, apply filters and emulate the mic being moved off-axis. The processing can be carried out natively within a DAW, or used in real time during tracking with UA’s Apollo interfaces — running the plug-in within the DAW will also mean that the processing can be carried out even after a part has been recorded.
Pricing & Availability
The SC‑1 Standard Condenser Microphone is available to order now, priced at $499, with shipping set to commence later in AutumnFall 2023. Users will be provided with a licence for the Hemisphere Mic Modeling Plug-in upon registering the mic, and those who already own an SD‑1 Standard Dynamic Microphone or SP‑1 Standard Pencil Microphone Pair are eligible for a free upgrade. The plug-in will become available in November 2023.
